Retiree Medicare Part B Reimbursements to Remain the Same Under
2016-17 NYS Budget

The recently enacted 2016-17 New York State Budget does not impose any additional Medicare Part B costs on retirees who participate in the New York Health Insurance Plan. Governor Cuomo had proposed maintaining reimbursement of the Medicare Part B Standard Premium at $104.90 per month, but eliminating reimbursement for federal increases beyond $104.90, including reimbursements to "high income" retirees (single retirees with annual earnings over $85,000).

Another Cuomo proposal would have required new retirees with 10 to 30 years of service to pay a larger share of their retirement health care costs than those with at least 30 years of service.

Both proposals were dropped from the recently passed New York State budget. Thus, all retirees will continue to get reimbursed for their Medicare Part B premiums, including those whose monthly premiums exceed $104.90.
