RETIREMENT LUNCHEON FOR JODY WALD

DATE: WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 7, 2016
TIME: 12 PM - 2 PM
PLACE: 6th Floor Hearing Room

After a combined 36 years with the New York State Insurance Department and the Department of Financial Services, Jody Wald has reviewed his last annual statement, rejected his last captive licensing application and purchased his last monthly Long Island Railroad ticket. Now instead of having to serve multiple masters, he will henceforth only need to take orders from his wife Susan.

Jody, a Queens College graduate, was recruited by the Insurance Department’s old Director of Personnel Barbara Watson and started with the Department’s Audit Bureau in July 1980. Jody’s career would take him on a detour through the Consumer Services Bureau, but eventually he would come home to the Property Bureau, where he has resided for the last 30 years, except for a brief interlude heading up the Department’s Captive team. Not wishing to waste manpower, the Department conferred upon Jody the dual role of being both a Unit Supervisor in the Property Bureau and heading up the licensing of captives. To commemorate Jody as one of the original members of the Department’s Captive team, he will receive an engraved copy of Article 70 of the New York Insurance Law.

Just to show you how much water has flowed under the bridge since Jody’s started at the Department in 1980, Blondie’s “Call Me” was named Song of the Year that year, the NY Islanders captured the first of four-straight Stanley Cups, the Philadelphia Phillies won their first-ever World Championship, three-piece suits were the standard business attire for men, smoking was permitted in the work place, but marijuana was illegal. Now smoking is banned in most public areas, while marijuana is being legalized.

A lot has changed over the years, and now Jody is ready to hand over the reins to the next generation of examiners to forge a new regulatory path and erect the electronic guardrails necessary to guide the Insurance Industry through the 21st Century.

To help Jody celebrate his distinguished career at the Department, a Luncheon will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Noon in the 6th Floor Hearing Room.

The cost is $35. If you cannot attend but would like to contribute please contact Linda or Nora. J
